This resource was used during Guided Reading for Y6, using the novel 'Kensuke's Kingdom'. It focuses on the children using clues to try to determine where exactly Michael may be lost/located in an effort to find him. The clues include an SOS letter, letter from the school, coast guard reports and the ship's log. It also includes the PowerPoint.

This display (can be used as a teaching tool shared with the class) explains the meaning of PEE (Point, Evidence and Explanation) and gives examples, first using pictures (appropriate for KS1 or lower ability children in KS2) followed by texts for KS2/3. These are the Teacher Led questions for Guided Reading sessions based on the ORT Stage 16 Classics. It is based on the teacher reading once a week with the children and may require children to read following chapters at home (therefore questions do not cover each chapter). Preparation questions can be given to the children the day before the teacher led session. 6 Novels are included (Treasure Island, The Lost World, Sherlock Holmes, Oliver Twist, Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde).

Included are the Guided Reading Questions for the Teacher Led session based on the ORT Stage 14-15 Classics (Jungle Book, White Fang, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Black Beauty). It is based on the teacher leading a session once a week with a group, requiring the children to read chapters between at home (therefore the questions do not cover every chapter). Preparation questions are given.

This pack was aimed at Y5 during the summer holidays, however it could be adapted slightly for Y3-6. It consists of various activities including maths, spellings, descriptive writing and geography. It is meant to be fun to engage the children (e.g. wordsearch and time tables raps). Each task is awarded points (thus ensuring all children in the class can access it) which children accumulate during the pack to obtain broze, silver, gold or platinum award....you can decide whether you give any prizes in return.

This resource includes 3 articles taken from The Guardian (football, technology and environmental) with related questions. Suggested answers are included. These questions are aimed at supporting Y6 children in preparation for their SATs.

A selection of challenging vocabulary (to place on your display) with definitions, which challenges the children to use more complex choices. I have used it this year in my class and the impact on the children's writing was immediate. During an observation by an OFSTED inspection, it was high lighted as a really strength. The topics links to class novels and include: narratives, discussions, persuasion, poetry (rap and WW1), newspapers, reports and Britain Since 1948. The vocabulary links to both the writing genre and the medium (class novel). Class novels include: Skellig, Kensuke's Kingdom, Holes, Coraline and Once. These topics covered my whole year's teaching.
